From Daylight Generation to Evening Use

Solar generates on its own schedule — your home uses energy on its own schedule. Battery storage bridges the gap. Three time windows describe the full daily energy flow.

DAYTIME
Generate & Store

PV panels generate DC power. The inverter supplies daytime home loads first. Excess solar charges the LiFePO4 battery instead of being exported at low feed-in rates.

EVENING
Switch to Battery

As PV generation falls below home demand, the system blends solar and battery output. Peak-rate grid imports are replaced with stored solar energy at zero marginal cost.

NIGHT
Battery Powers the Home

With no PV generation, the battery supplies overnight loads — fridge, lights, Wi-Fi, standby — until depleted. Grid is only drawn upon if needed.

How does residential solar battery storage work?

Solar panels generate DC power during the day. An inverter converts it to AC for home loads. Excess solar power that isn't consumed immediately is stored in the LiFePO4 battery. After sunset or during low-light hours, the home draws stored energy from the battery instead of importing from the grid — increasing self-consumption and reducing electricity import.

Yes — that is the primary use case. During the day, excess PV generation charges the battery. In the evening and overnight, when PV generation drops to zero, the battery discharges to cover home loads. With a properly sized battery, most evening and overnight loads can be supplied from stored solar.

A common sizing logic is: roughly 1.5–2 kWh of battery per 1 kW of PV for self-consumption, adjusted for daily evening load. Typical homes pair a 5–10 kWh PV system with 10–15 kWh of battery. Larger PV systems (10 kW+) often use 15–25 kWh stackable battery storage. Send your PV size and average daily evening load and we'll recommend a matched battery capacity.

Yes. Existing PV systems can be retrofitted with battery storage in two ways: (1) DC-coupled — adding a hybrid inverter that combines PV input and battery management; (2) AC-coupled — adding an all-in-one battery+inverter unit downstream of the existing PV inverter. Our 3kW/5kW all-in-one and stackable systems support both retrofit paths.

For a new PV + battery installation, a hybrid inverter is usually the cleanest single-system solution — it handles PV MPPT, battery charging/discharging and grid interaction in one box. For retrofits onto an existing PV inverter, an AC-coupled battery+inverter is often more practical. Our stackable and all-in-one systems include built-in pure sine wave inverters covering both cases.
